The diocese's new server software in fall 2008 supports calendars via the CalDAV protocol. It currently supports two types of calendars: individual user calendars and group calendars.

Individual user calendars: An individual person can store their calendars on the server using client software such as iCal or Sunbird. These calendar are not available via a web-based interface.

Group calendars: A group of users can jointly manage a calendar. There is currently a limit of ONE calendar per group (web-based limitation), though several similar groups can exist. The calendars can be edited or viewed via client software (iCal or Sunbird) and via a web-based interface. Calendars can be public, large group, or small group, which each level having access privileges of "no acccess", "read only" or "read and write".

Directions for accessing a group calendar in Sunbird...

  1. Launch "Sunbird".
  2. In the "File" menu, select "Subscribe to Remote Calendar".
  3. Choose "On the Network".
  4. Choose "CalDAV".
  5. Enter the following location address, replacing domain.org and groupnamewith proper information. The "www" is intentionally missing.
    http://domain.org:8008/calendars/groups/groupname/calendar/
  6. If prompted, enter username and password.
  7. Enter a name of your choice.
  8. Click "Done".
  9. In the "File" menu, select "Reload Remote Calendars".
  10. Though not required, via Sunbird preferences, change the refresh rate to five minutes.

Directions for accessing a group calendar in iCal...

  1. Launch "iCal" on a computer running Mac OS 10.5 or later.
  2. In the "iCal" menu, select "Preferences".
  3. In the toolbar, click "Accounts".
  4. Click "+"
  5. Enter a description of your choice.
  6. Enter the username and password. (The user must have read/write access to calendar.)
  7. Enter the following location address, replacing domain.org and groupname with proper information. The "www" is intentionally missing.
  8. http://domain.org:8008/principals/groups/groupname/

  1. Send web browser to the following address, replacing domain.org and groupname with proper information. The "www" is intentionally missing.
