Does your school or parish want to build a web site? Your site can be hosted on the CEM web server.

It is not a goal of the diocese to be an web hosting company. However, the diocese does possess certain resources. It is possible to share these resources among the parishes and schools, as long they are not over utilized or abused.

Web Hosting

The diocesan web server complies with basic industry standards (including FTP, WebDAV). Each parish/school chooses their own web address.

If a variant of the diocesan web address is used, there is no charge. This is referred to as a sub-domain or sub-zone. Examples include . . .

If the parish/school wants a web address specific to the institution, a cost of $15/year is incurred. This is referred to as a domain name. Examples include . . .

Email Hosting

The diocesan email server complies with industry standards (including POP3, IMAP, SMTP). It is typical to provide each parish/school staff person with an email address.

The use of email accounts requires a domain name or sub-domain. These are described above under 'Web Hosting'. (A web site is not required to use email, just a domain/sub-domain decision.) Example email addresses . . .

When creating email addresses, it is recommended to use a consistent pattern. Email addresses are typically composed of a job title, an employee's first initial and last name, or both first and last names. More example email addresses . . .

Costs

Institutions are expected to reimburse the diocese's expenses. As of this writing, the only cost passed on to parishes and schools is the purchase of an optional domain name (mentioned above). This is $15/year (billed approximately every fourth year).
