From the Pastor:

Jesus, Son of God: The baptism of Jesus is described only briefly: he “was baptized, [and] came up from the water.” The drama is found in the aftermath when the dove-like Spirit descends on him, a voice from heaven is heard, and the identity of Jesus is revealed, “this is my beloved son.”

The first thing Jesus does after his baptism is to go into the wilderness where he is tested three times by the devil. The issue in two of those tests is stated by the devil: “If you are the Son of God. . .” (4:3,6). What does it mean to be the Son of God? How should the Son of God act? Will the Son of God use his power for his own benefit? What Jesus does and will do throughout his ministry flows from understanding clearly who he is. The Son of God is called, not to power or privilege, but to service and self-giving. (from Living Liturgy 2008)

This Sunday, with celebrating the Baptism of the Lord, we officially conclude the Christmas Season.  Next Sunday we will begin Ordinary Time in the Church year cycle.

P.S.  I have decided to put my name at the end of my own message in the bulletin.  It prevents any further misunderstanding from anything being submitted in the bulletin that I did not write myself, as Pastor.
