HomeDiocesan Offices ▸ Worship

The Office of Worship assists the diocesan bishop in carrying out his function as promoter and guardian of the liturgical life of this diocese. This office assists the people of the Diocese of Saint Cloud in liturgical formation by deepening their understanding of the liturgy and helping them to implement the vision of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy. The Office of Worship provides leadership and direction for the development of liturgical celebrations, prayer, music, art and environment.

As the diocese prepares to implement the translation of the third edition of the Roman Missal, there are a number of websites that you are encouraged to visit to learn more about the process and content of the forthcoming translation.

- The Bishops Committee on Divine Worship website contains catechetical materials for the translation of the 3rd Edition of the Roman Missal.  This site also includes the texts of the Order of Mass that can be downloaded and printed for study.  The texts will be updated as they become available.

- The Notre Dame Center for Liturgy has launched a website that contains 15-minute videos which catechize about different aspects of the Liturgy.  These videos cover historical developments, music and chant, biblical influences in the new translation and catechesis on the Eucharistic Prayer.  Transcripts of the videos may also be downloaded.

- Liturgy Training Publications has also developed a website for the implementation of the Roman Missal which contains news, resources, workshops, blogs, FAQs, and more.

For some years now, Canadian Catholics have celebrated the Ascension of the Lord on the 7th Sunday of Easter. So have a number of Western dioceses in the United States, whose bishops asked for and obtained permission for this change in the liturgical calendar. On November 16, 1998, the U.S. bishops voted to allow the bishops of each ecclesiastical province to move the solemnity of the Ascension to the 7th Sunday of Easter. After this decision was confirmed by the Vatican, the bishops of our ecclesiastical province (Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota) voted for this change. Thus this year, in our diocese, the Ascension of the Lord will be celebrated on Sunday, May 16.
