Often when we hear the word stewardship, the first thing we think of is money. Though the gift of income is indeed from God, it is just one of the many gifts we have been given. Giving from the gift of treasure is important for the operation of our parish, our diocese and many charitable organizations.

For many people, the decision to give financially is not as difficult as it is to decide where to give. When choosing the avenue in which to give, it is best to think in terms of proportion and intention. Simply put, give in proportion to what you have received and be intentional in determining how much you will give and where you will give. Start with the Church - meaning your parish and your diocese - and always consider charitable giving to support the needs of the community.

Maybe it is because it is easily measured or maybe it is used to fulfill our own needs and wants, money is the issue that tends to raise the most questions. But it is also an area that can create tremendous joy when giving it away.
