A biography of Bishop John F. Kinney

  • 1937 - June 11, born to John Francis and Marie (McCarty) Kinney in Oelwein, Iowa.
  • Elementary school -- St. Thomas, Winona; Annunciation, Minneapolis.
  • Secondary school -- De La Salle, Minneapolis.
  • Seminary -- Nazareth Hall, St. Paul, Minnesota.
  • 1963 -- Graduated from St. Paul Seminary, St. Paul; BA degree.
  • 1963 - Feb. 2, Ordained a priest at St. Paul Cathedral, St. Paul, by St. Paul-Minneapolis Archbishop Leo Binz.
  • 1963-68 -- Assistant pastor of St. Thomas Parish, Minneapolis.
  • 1966-68 -- Vice chancellor of the St. Paul-Minneapolis Archdiocese.
  • 1968-71 -- Graduate studies at Lateran University, Rome, completing a doctorate in canon law.
  • 1971-73 -- Vice chancellor of the St. Paul-Minneapolis Archdiocese.
  • 1973-82 -- Chancellor of the St. Paul-Minneapolis Archdiocese.
  • 1973-82 -- Pastor, St. Leonard of Port Maurice Parish, Minneapolis.
  • 1976 - Nov. 16, Named auxiliary bishop of the St. Paul-Minneapolis Archdiocese and titular bishop of Caorle by Pope Paul VI.
  • 1977 - Jan. 25, Ordained bishop at the Basilica of St. Mary, Minneapolis, by Archbishop John Roach.
